Duration of fever in infants
Toddlers have fever much more often than adults. In most cases this is due to a harmless infection, which means that the fever quickly subsides. In children aged between one and two years, a fever usually subsides after one day. Symptoms
Whether the fever develops is usually noticed by the parents already in the phase of the temperature rise, when a clearly warmed up forehead is noticeable when stroking the head, while the rest of the body still appears to be at normal temperature. Since the toddler feels uncomfortable, but is not yet able to communicate this, it is mainly noticed by crying and whining. In some cases even a chill can be felt.
Once the fever climax is reached, the youngest ones attract attention by glowing red cheeks and a rise in temperature, especially on the belly and back, which can later be felt on the whole body. A nocturnal restlessness and frequent waking up during the night as well as rapid breathing can also be a sign of fever. When the fever gradually subsides, the classic sweating begins, and the infant is increasingly tired and weak.
If the infant can be calmed down at any time and the intake of food and fluids is not reduced at any time, there is no need to worry about it. However, if the baby is behaving in an increasingly unusual way, cannot be calmed down by anything, is not responding well, appears apathetic, stops drinking and eating, has a dry mouth or may even start cramps, a pediatrician should be consulted as soon as possible.
