Duration of thrombosis | Pain in the calf – What are the indications that I have a thrombosis?

Duration of thrombosis

Normally a thrombosis does not change after approx. 2 weeks with appropriate treatment and an enlargement or complication such as the ascending of the thrombosis into the pelvic veins can be excluded. As a rule, therapy with blood thinners or anticoagulants takes at least 3 months if a calf thrombosis occurs for the first time.

If the thrombosis is severe, the therapy can also be extended to 6 months. In general, however, the following applies: In the event of renewed thrombosis, the anticoagulant therapy should be extended to one year. If an inherited or acquired tendency to thrombosis is detected, a longer or even life-long treatment should be expected.
