Duration | Pain in the labia clitoris

Duration

Depending on the cause, the duration of the pain is difficult to estimate. In the case of inflammation, the pain often develops together with other symptoms and becomes stronger within a few days. Pain caused by irritation usually occurs when touched or moved and disappears again at rest.

Pain due to tumors can develop steadily over weeks. Especially in the early stages, carcinomas are usually symptom-free. Pain due to vaginal dryness can develop slowly until menstruation stops, especially during the menopause.

The pain can disappear on its own after a while. As a rule, however, they only stop once the cause has been treated. Pain in vulvodynia can occur in many different ways. For example, it can only occur during irritation, such as sexual intercourse, but even the slightest movement. Since this is a chronic pain disorder, the pain usually does not improve until pain therapy is administered.

When should I go to the doctor?

Since pain in the genital area is often associated with a variety of clinical pictures, it is advisable to consult a doctor if you have pain. This is particularly necessary if the pain has been going on for several days or even weeks or is particularly severe. Other symptoms such as itching, difficulty urinating or swelling also indicate a more complex disease.

Since many diseases in the genital area do not heal on their own, but require therapy, an examination by the treating gynecologist is important. This can help to prevent complications of inflammation or to detect malignant changes earlier.
