Duration
The duration of the pain in the metacarpophalangeal joint of the thumb depends, like the therapy, on the cause. Since pain can occur again and again in diseases such as gout, rheumatoid arthritis or arthrosis, these diseases will cause pain in phases. After a trauma it depends on how severe the injury is.
If it is only a strain of the tendons, the complaints can disappear within a few days after adequate immobilization. In the case of a torn ligament, the severity of the tear is also important. Thus, treatment can take weeks or even months until the ligament is completely painless.
