Duration
The average time for an MRI examination of the prostate is about 30-40 minutes, although individual deviations are always possible.
Costs for an MRT of the prostate
The costs of a pure prostate MRI examination and thus a pelvic imaging, amount to an amount of about 800-900€ for privately insured persons (billing according to GoÄ). The costs for a statutory insurance are lower and will be covered by a physician if prescribed by a doctor. However, the costs can vary individually, depending on the additional costs such as the administration of contrast medium or medication. For private patients, the resulting costs are fully covered by the private health insurance companies.
The statutory health insurance companies also usually cover the costs of an MRI examination of the prostate, as this is included in the associated catalog of services. In accordance with the S3 guideline on prostate carcinoma (prostate cancer), the indication must correspond to the various stages of prostate cancer in the areas of early detection, diagnosis and therapy. Special MRI examination forms, such as MRI spectroscopy or MRI-assisted punch biopsy, on the other hand, are not covered by the statutory health insurance funds, but are offered as so-called individual health services (IGEL), which must be paid for in full by the patients themselves (all costs, including the MRI). Private health insurance companies usually even pay for the examinations that are considered IGEL services by the statutory health insurance companies.
