Sitting in the office or at school

A typical example of patients who sit for long periods is office workers. The work at the PC is mainly done sitting down, only during breaks there is alternation for the body. However, during the lunch break one usually sits down again directly to take a meal.

Also in schools and universities most time is spent sitting. To counteract this, a so-called Pezzi ball or an air cushion can be placed on the chair as a seat pad. The office chair should be height adjustable, just like the desk.

Wastebasket or printer should not be under the desk, but placed in another corner, as this gives you more legroom. If you don’t need the keyboard for a while and need to write something by hand instead, move the keyboard to the side. This gives you more room for your arms.

If you need to make a phone call, either use a cordless phone or pull the phone up. When talking to colleagues in the same room, it’s better to talk across the computer screen rather than leaning to the side. Back-friendly sitting is not only important at work, but also at school or university.

Back-friendly sitting starts with the position of the table in relation to the blackboard. A horseshoe-shaped placement of all tables in relation to each other is not advantageous for students sitting at the side. They have to turn with their upper body to get a good view of the blackboard. It is more advantageous if the tables are placed next to each other and behind each other. In this way, all students can look at the blackboard in a straight position.

The Pezzi ball is the most widespread representative of the gymnastics ball and a good way to get more movement into sitting. Due to the instability of the air-filled ball, the body and especially the back muscles have to work permanently subconsciously to keep the balance while sitting.
