Ectopic Pregnancy | Pregnancy complications – What are the signs?

Ectopic Pregnancy

Ectopic pregnancy is the most common form of ectopic pregnancy, i.e. the implantation of the fertilized egg outside the uterus, and is an important complication of pregnancy. The fertilized egg nests in a fallopian tube on its way to the uterus. This can lead to injuries or even rupture of the affected fallopian tube, and thus to complications such as abdominal pain and heavy bleeding, which can be life-threatening.

An ectopic pregnancy can be detected by a pregnancy test, a gynaecological examination and an ultrasound scan. Depending on the stage of the ectopic pregnancy, there are different treatment options. In early stages, an ectopic pregnancy can be treated with medication, in advanced stages surgery is often necessary.
