Excipial Cream

Products

Excipial Crème was approved in many countries in 1977 (Spirig, Egerkingen). Distribution was discontinued by Galderma in 2019. The cream was often used as a basis for the preparation of extemporaneous preparations, which are prepared in pharmacies according to a doctor’s prescription. For this purpose, the cream was mixed with other preparations and with active ingredients. Similar products are available as substitutes. However, when changing the base, the question of compatibility, miscibility, release and stability arises.

Structure and properties

Excipial Crème is a semi-solid preparation for external use without active ingredients. It is an oil-in-water emulsion. The crème is preserved with (the controversial) triclosan as well as chlorhexidine dihydrochloride. The lipid content is 35.5%. The crème does not contain perfume.
