Eyebright eye drops are available from various suppliers in vials and in the form of single doses. In addition to mono, combination preparations are also commercially available.
Ingredients
Eye drops contain a dilute or homeopathic preparation of eyebright herb (e.g. , , Scrophulariaceae).
Effects
Eyebright eye drops are believed to have soothing, moisturizing, anti-inflammatory, astringent, and antimicrobial properties.
Indications for use
Possible indications for use include:
- Mild inflammatory conditions of the conjunctiva.
- Eye irritation
- Tired, watery eyes, foreign body sensation.
- Dry eyes
- Swelling of the eyelid
Dosage
According to the package leaflet. Usually 1 drop is instilled into the conjunctival sac of the eye two to three times daily. See also under Administering eye drops.
Contraindications
The eye drops are contraindicated in cases of hypersensitivity and should be used only under medical supervision in cases of glaucoma. If there is no improvement within 2-3 days, the patient should seek medical attention. Full precautions can be found in the Instructions for Use.
Adverse effects
Possible adverse effects include mild irritation after administration and hypersensitivity reactions.
