Febrile Seizure: Therapy

General measures

  • Keep calm
  • Notice time onset of seizure (a simple febrile seizure usually lasts only a few minutes)
  • Loosen the child’s clothes, lay him upright if possible, so that he can breathe easily.
  • Protect the child from injury (remove dangerous objects from the environment, etc.).
  • If the child vomits, it should be placed on its side so that the vomit does not enter the lungs.
  • Do not put a wedge in the mouth.
  • Do not instill food/liquid.
  • After an unexplained seizure, the child should be placed on the abdomen or in a stable lateral position with arms bent headward. In doing so, the head should be turned to the side and slightly backward.
  • Notify rescue service
