The course of an acute pancreatitis is difficult to predict. It is crucial for the prognosis that the patient is regularly monitored and controlled at short intervals. This is necessary in order to quickly detect and treat any complications, or better still, to avoid them altogether.
The mortality rate in the case of pancreatitis depends on the severity of the disease. If the dying tissue becomes infected, the prognosis is generally worse than with sterile = non-infected tissue.
