HealingPrognosis | Vocal fold paralysis

HealingPrognosis

The possibility of a complete cure for vocal fold paralysis depends on the cause of the paralysis. In rare cases, especially in accidents or after operations, the responsible nerve is completely severed or so severely damaged that paralysis cannot be cured. In many cases, however, the nerve is merely irritated.

If there is a tumor pressing on the nerve, this cause must be eliminated. If the nerve has a residual function and is not severed, the muscles can often recover partially through subsequent therapy. Nerve tissue is very sensitive and is still difficult to treat today. However, the more severely the nerve is damaged, the less likely it is to recover large parts of its function.
