Bedroom
There should be enough room in the bedroom for dressing, even for an assistant if you need help getting dressed. In the best case, there is also enough space for one or two gymnastic exercises.
– Bed: Restful sleep is especially important. The bed should be of high quality. A slatted frame that can be adjusted in several places and a high-quality foam or spring mattress are recommended. Not cheap, but worthwhile is a grate that can be adjusted at the touch of a button.
For people who lie in bed a lot, it is important that the mattress is not too hard. Pressure points can be avoided with a softer design. The lying surface should be about 50 centimeters above the floor, which makes it easier to get up. You can build up too low bed bases with special wooden underlay cubes. You can find cubes of the right size in medical supply stores. There are also special care beds for bedridden people.
– Telephone: Many manufacturers offer special “senior citizen telephones”. These devices have larger keys and a well-lit display. The operation is usually more clearly arranged, the loudspeaker is more powerful and the earpiece can also be adapted to hearing aids.
