Home remedies for children

The various home remedies designed to help adults against gingivitis are not all suitable for children. Essential oils, even diluted, can cause cramps, respiratory problems and even respiratory arrest in children, which is why substances such as mint oils, menthol and camphor are dangerous for small children up to 2 years of age. Especially during the period of tooth replacement, gum inflammation can quickly develop in children, which can usually be treated with home remedies and disappear within a few days.

In the case of gum inflammation, mouth rinsing solutions such as camomile and sage tea can be used without hesitation. Rinsing several times a day can soothe irritated gums. Even clove oil diluted with water has an antibacterial effect, which relieves signs of inflammation and minimizes pain. In case of slight swellings, a short-term cooling with a cooling pack is also helpful to relieve the inflammation pain. However, if the inflammation does not recede due to home remedies, a dentist must be consulted to treat the inflammation of the gums with medication if necessary.

Homeopathy

Homeopathic preparations can be used as a supportive treatment for gum inflammation. However, their effectiveness has not been proven by studies. The globule Mercurius solubilis is used especially for swollen gums and redness in the oral cavity.

In potency D12, five globules are taken three times a day. The application period usually lasts seven to ten days. Globules also have the advantage of supporting the immune system, so that the body can fight the infection better and thus fight the gum inflammation faster.

Nevertheless, globules should not be used as the sole form of therapy, but should serve as an additional support in addition to dental therapy. If the gum inflammation has been caused by adhering plaque and food residues, the globules cannot provide relief if the residues have not been professionally removed by the dentist. For this reason, consultation with the dentist treating the patient is considered the means of choice to ensure that the globules have a supportive positive effect and thus promote a dental therapy path.
