Home remedy for toothache
Since the complaints often occur exactly when no dental practice can be visited (for example, at the weekend), many patients ask themselves what exactly they can do about the toothache. Probably the most popular measure to relieve acute toothache is the use of painkillers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen. But not in every case the use of these drugs is inevitable.
There are a number of other opinions about what can be done about toothache. Various home remedies that are also available at the weekend in most homes can help to relieve mild toothache quickly and effectively. The most popular home remedies include cloves and salts.
Both the juice of cloves and common household salt, dissolved in tap water, can be a miracle cure for toothache. In addition, the biting of a clove in the area of the aching teeth is felt by many affected people as particularly beneficial. In this context, however, it must be ensured that nervously caused toothache is even intensified by this household remedy.
But also for patients who suffer from such toothache (for example on weekends) there are many things they can do on their own. The absorption of herbal vapors into the oral cavity, for example, should help to fight nervously caused toothache. Chewing a chopped onion is also said to have a calming effect on the irritated tooth substance. Another method that patients suffering from toothache can do is to actively cool the cheek region. This measure reduces the release of inflammation and pain mediators and thus effectively relieves the toothache.
Wisdom tooth
Toothache is often associated with one or more wisdom teeth. Especially when a wisdom tooth breaks through, toothache and/or discomfort in the jaw area can occur. In addition, the typical wisdom tooth has an increased risk of tooth decay in most people due to its location in the jaw.
Especially in case of toothache at the wisdom tooth, many of those affected ask themselves what they can do. Complaints that occur during the eruption can usually be alleviated by careful cooling of the cheek region. However, care must be taken that the coolant (for example a cooling pad) is never placed directly on the skin surface.
Otherwise, this can lead to severe skin reactions and chills. Another method what you can do for a toothache caused by the eruption of a wisdom tooth is to suck an ice cube. However, if the toothache on the wisdom tooth lasts longer, a dentist should be consulted urgently.
Many patients do not have enough space in their jaws. The wisdom tooth may cause the other teeth to be displaced. For this reason, removal of the wisdom tooth should be considered if the pain is persistent.
