Calcified shoulder
In a so-called calcified shoulder, also known as tendinosis calcarea, calcification occurs in the area of the shoulder joint. The cause of the development of the calcific deposit has not yet been fully clarified. For the person affected, however, it leads to severe pain and restricted movement of the shoulder joint, often caused by inflammation. As a rule, the excess calcium deposits disappear on their own over time, but sometimes therapy and the accompanying use of anti-inflammatory and pain-reducing medication can be useful.
The main aim here is to get the patient pain-free as quickly as possible and to promote the reduction of calcium deposits. Possible therapy approaches can be matrix, chiro or physiotherapy. In rare cases it may be necessary to remove the excess calcium surgically. In many cases, however, even simple immobilization of the shoulder joint with the help of a special shoulder orthosis can help.
