Prognosis | Endometriosis

Prognosis

Even after surgical and drug therapy, symptoms can recur at any time as long as hormonal stimulation of the affected areas is present. However, if the hormonal stimulation decreases due to menopause or surgical removal of the ovaries, a massive reduction in symptoms can be expected. As a supportive measure, the implementation of the so-called Mediterranean diet is also being discussed, in which the consumption of abundant fruit, vegetables and unsaturated fats in the form of sea fish and olive oil is propagated.

Nutrition

The treatment of endometriosis is very difficult in many cases. However, it is now assumed that the right diet can have a decisive influence on the course of the disease and the symptoms experienced by the patients affected. According to extensive studies, a diet based mainly on wheat and sugar is counterproductive for the course of the disease.

In about 80 percent of the test subjects it was observed that doing without wheat and sugar contributes to a noticeable reduction in pain. In many of the women affected, the complaints even disappeared completely. These results enable a targeted change in the diet of endometriosis patients.

At breakfast, ordinary bread can be replaced by buckwheat, rye or oat bread. Even this slight change in diet can significantly improve the well-being of an endometriosis patient. Ideally, fruit should be eaten mainly at breakfast.

In addition, the abdominal pain caused by the scattered endometrial cells can be relieved in the long term by reducing the sugar intake and avoiding alcohol and coffee. Sugary drinks in particular play a decisive role in the change of diet in endometriosis patients. If these simple basic rules regarding nutrition are followed, a continuous improvement in the pain symptoms usually sets in after just a few weeks.

After a few months, the pain disappears completely in the majority of affected women. According to these new findings, the success of treatment for this clinical picture can be increased many times over by a targeted change in diet. In addition, it should be noted in this context that poor nutrition and the associated overweight is considered a general risk factor for the development of endometriosis.

Above all, abdominal fat caused by little exercise and a particularly unhealthy diet is said to increase the risk of endometriosis development many times over. The reason for this is the fact that a large number of female sex hormones are synthesized in fatty tissue, among other things.Through years of unhealthy nutrition and little exercise, the body puts on more fat and consequently increases hormone production. Under certain circumstances, this can provoke the scattering of endometrial cells and lead to significant pain symptoms.
