House Dust Mite Allergy (Dust Allergy): Drug Therapy

Therapy target

• Improvement of the symptomatology

Therapy recommendations

• Avoid exposure to the triggering allergens (i.e., exposure prophylaxis as much as possible).
• Antihistamines, glucocorticoids (symptomatic, ie, to treat the symptoms).
• Cromoglicic acid (prophylactic).
• For causal therapy, specific immunotherapy (synonyms: hyposensitization, allergy vaccination) can be performed in certain cases. Prior to this, proof of the clinical relevance of sensitization detected in the allergy test (conjunctival or nasal provocation test) is required!
• Anaphylaxis (most severe and threatening form of allergic reaction): glucocorticoids, antihistamines, sympathomimetics (adrenaline; first-line agent), volume replacement.
