How to prevent gum bleeding?

Many users with sensitive gums are deterred from flossing by bleeding gums and pain. But this does not have to be the case. It is advisable to use a soft or ribbon-shaped dental floss instead of the traditional taut, thread-shaped one.

This allows for easier and gentler insertion into the interdental spaces without damaging or irritating them. The gums are simply cleaned and allow a painless application. Furthermore, the correct technique is also crucial. The dental floss should be inserted into the interdental space without much pressure by slowly moving it back and forth and this space should then be gently brushed out to avoid irritating the gums.

Dental floss smells/smells of use – what does that mean?

Contrary to popular belief, not all dental floss is the same. The products offered by different manufacturers differ enormously, both in quality and in the effectiveness of the dental cleaning. Also in the structure different dental floss differ from each other.

The most commonly used dental floss consists of many thin threads that stick together. In extensive tests, the cleaning effect and handling, as well as the declaration and instructions for use were evaluated. These tests made it clear that the quality of a good floss has absolutely no relation to the price of the product.

It is therefore not necessary to always use the most expensive dental floss, and inexpensive products sometimes perform much better. With an average grade of Good (1.6), the “Sensitive Floss by Dontodent®” available from dm (price about 1.50 Euro), the “Sensitive Floss by Perlodent®” offered by Rossmann (price about 1.40 Euro), the “Easy Flossers Icy Mint® waxed by Sunstar GUM” are among the best rated dental floss. In the area of cleaning effectiveness, all three products received the grade “very good” (1.2).

Handling was rated with an average of “good” (2.0) and the declaration and instructions for use were rated “good” (2.0). In addition to “ordinary” dental floss, there is also so-called superfloss dental floss, which has a thickened, softer structure in the middle area. In general, superfloss floss has three different areas: Especially in places where teeth are severely misaligned or nested, the threading area makes the application much easier.

In the area of the molars, the spaces between the teeth are generally somewhat wider, and “ordinary” dental floss may not be able to provide sufficient cleaning effect there. The other piece of Superfloss dental floss can clean the tooth surface more effectively in these areas.
