According to current knowledge, a migraine cannot be cured. But it can succeed to mitigate attacks and course and prevent. Due to the unclear causes, there are countless, partly different recommendations on how sufferers can prevent migraines.
Finding individual migraine triggers
In principle, the individual causes should be found and avoided first and foremost to enable prevention. These can be, for example, contraceptives (pill), stress, lack of sleep, weather influences, hypoglycemia or certain foods.
Tips against migraine
Commonly recommended measures against migraine include:
- Change of diet
- Reduction of stress
- Learning and use of relaxation methods
- Regular exercise or sports
- Regular daily routine
It is often recommended to switch to a low-carbohydrate diet – but scientific studies on this are lacking. Also certain minerals and vitamins are attributed positive effects, especially the B vitamins, coenzyme 10, magnesium, zinc, selenium and omega-3 fatty acids.
Food intolerances in migraine sufferers.
Because migraine sufferers often also have food intolerances, it may be worthwhile to test them.
Classic intolerances are those to red wine and cheese, but also to food additives (for example, glutamate). Other remedies such as homeopathy can be used supportively against migraine, but should be accompanied by an appropriately trained therapist due to the severity and chronic course of migraine.
