Kadefungin for Fungal Infections

This is the active ingredient in Kadefungin

The active ingredient in the Kadefungin combination products is called clotrimazole. It belongs to the group of azole antimycotics. These inhibit the production of a substance (ergosterol) that is important for the function of the cell membrane of fungi and some types of bacteria. The accompanying Kadefungin lactic acid treatment also normalizes the pH value of the vagina. This regenerates the vagina’s natural protective acid mantle and combats pathogens.

When is Kadefungin used?

Kadefungin is recommended for fungal infections of the vagina and the external genital area. The lactic acid treatment is used to recover and restore damaged vaginal flora and to prevent further infections caused by fungi and some bacteria.

What are the side effects of Kadefungin?

Occasional side effects of Kadefungin are generally limited to skin irritation at the site of application (redness, burning, stinging). In addition, intolerance to the preparation can lead to a severe allergic reaction with swelling of the airways, shortness of breath, drop in blood pressure and even shock. In this case, an emergency doctor should be called immediately.

You should note the following when using Kadefungin

To avoid impairing the effect, intimate hygiene products should only be used during treatment after consulting your doctor. In addition, Kadefungin can weaken the condom material so that adequate contraceptive protection is no longer guaranteed.

So far, only interactions with other antifungal medications (Amphothericin B, Nystatin, Natamycin) are known. Nevertheless, the simultaneous use of other medications should be discussed with your doctor or pharmacist beforehand.

Children and adolescents

As there is no conclusive data on the safe use of Kadefungin 3 Kombi or other products, these preparations should only be used in children and adolescents after consultation with a doctor.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Studies indicate that there is an increased risk of miscarriage in the first three months of pregnancy. No studies are available for use in the last six months. Kadefungin should therefore only be used after a doctor has weighed up the risks and benefits. The vaginal tablets should not be inserted with the applicator during pregnancy.

During breastfeeding, the product can be used as directed by a doctor.

The lactic acid cure can impair sperm motility and make pregnancy more difficult.

Dosage

The duration of application is three or six days, depending on the product selected. This time frame should be adhered to even if the symptoms improve quickly in order to ensure that the infection is cured.

The Kadefungin lactic acid treatment is carried out for seven days. A disposable applicator containing the gel is inserted into the vagina every day and the gel reservoir is slowly emptied.

How to obtain Kadefungin

Kadefungin is available over the counter in pharmacies for the treatment of fungal infections. Kadefungin 6 requires a prescription due to the prolonged use of the active ingredient.

The Kadefungin combination consists of a Kadefungin cream and vaginal tablets, which are also available separately.
