Diagnosis | Lowering of the uterus after delivery

Diagnosis

The diagnosis of uterine prolapse is made by a gynecologist. Due to the typical symptoms, the suspicion of uterus prolapse should arise quite quickly. This suspicion can then be confirmed during the gynecological examination.

With the help of a vaginal mirror (speculum), the doctor can look into the vagina and detect an existing uterine prolapse. The gynaecologist often asks the woman to cough or push during the examination in order to be able to assess how far the uterus moves during the procedure. A rectal examination is also usually performed.

The doctor palpates the rectum in order to feel any protrusion that could be the cause of constipation. An ultrasound examination is performed to assess the effects on the bladder. Here it can be seen whether the bladder is also displaced due to the lowering of the uterus. If necessary, an ultrasound examination of the kidney is also carried out to detect any urinary retention. For more detailed information on this topic, we recommend our page on: Feel the lowering of the uterus
