Left arm pain with nausea
The combination of left arm pain and nausea is relatively specific and may indicate a serious acute problem with the heart. What is meant here is a heart attack. The pain that can radiate into the arm is considered a typical sign of a heart attack.
The nausea is one of the more unspecific signs of a heart attack, along with other symptoms such as shortness of breath. It is therefore important to interpret the combined symptoms correctly. Women in particular should be aware of nausea and pain in the left arm at the same time, as a heart attack is much more likely to occur in the female sex simply because of such unspecific signs.
The classic pain of destruction is also often absent in women. The nausea is often accompanied by severe sweating. If a heart attack is suspected, it is important to call an emergency doctor. and symptoms of a heart attack
Pain in the left arm due to a herniated disc in the cervical spine
A herniated disc in the area of the cervical spine is considered a rather rare manifestation among the localizations of a herniated disc. Therefore it is all the more important when diagnosing pain in the left arm to remember that it may be a herniated disc of the cervical spine. The herniated disc material displaces the surrounding nerve tissue, resulting in pressure-induced pain.
Typically, affected persons suffer a herniated disc at the level of C5/6, at the level of C6/7 or C7/8. In any case, pain radiating over the shoulder to the left arm can be considered the first sign of a herniated disc. The pain can have a different character: sometimes it is described as dull, sometimes as stabbing or pressing. It is typical that the pain first manifests itself in the neck and throat area and then moves into the arm.
Isolated pain due to a herniated disc is by the way rather rare. In most cases, those affected also feel a paraesthesia in the arm, i.e. a sensation of discomfort, for example in the form of a tingling sensation. In order to verify whether the pain in the arm can be traced back to a herniated disc in the cervical spine, imaging procedures can provide information. The suspicion of a herniated disc can also be hardened if those affected can provoke the pain in their left arm by tilting their head backwards or sideways.
