Medical Device Diagnostics in Dentistry

In modern dentistry, numerous medical devices help to make diagnoses in the dental, oral and maxillofacial systems, thereby contributing to a differentiated therapeutic approach.

All patients are familiar with the clinical control examination at the dentist. Many patients are familiar with caries diagnostics, which is supplemented beyond inspection by laser, caries meter or transillumination (FOTI). In addition, most patients are also familiar with dental X-rays, which use conventional X-ray technology or digital X-rays to produce images that are an important diagnostic tool. Cranial computed tomography (cCT; head CT) or digital volume tomography (DVT), on the other hand, are used much less frequently to answer diagnostic questions. Endometry in the context of root canal treatment and functional diagnostics for craniomandibular dysfunction (CMD), on the other hand, may again be more familiar measures.

Many more medical devices are used diagnostically to complement the clinical findings and to initiate meaningful therapy. The most important services of medical device diagnostics are presented below.
