Men Flu

Definition

Men’s flu is a widespread cold, especially in the cold autumn and winter months. Usually the man flu is caused by a mean and particularly nasty virus, which has made it its goal to completely paralyze the male ability to act. For this purpose the virus triggers the typical symptoms of male flu: Headache, weakness, men’s cough, men’s rhinitis and men’s neck pain, which occur in over 90% of cases together with strong sore throat.

Causes

Men affected by male flu feel as if they are facing death directly in the eye and therefore suspect serious causes of their disease symptoms. Possible causes from a male perspective are severe defects of the immune system, serious infectious diseases such as HIV, tumors and leukemia. In fact, men’s flu is usually triggered by typical viruses that creep insidiously up the dry mucous membranes of men, especially in autumn and winter.

Due to the cold weather, the mucous membranes have to work harder to master their task of germ defence. This is not always successful and viruses such as influenza, parainfluenza or the adenovirus can gain access behind this barrier and then multiply in the body. This hostile attack activates the man’s immune system, especially white blood cells are sent into battle. The symptoms of the male flu are triggered by this fight. The men therefore fight a hard battle and are no longer able to do other things besides coping with the male flu due to a lack of multitasking ability.

Why do men suffer more than women?

Men suffer more than women, which has various reasons. Scientists of the John Hopkins University of Baltimore (USA) have found out that the female hormone estrogen has an antiviral effect. Women have more oestrogen than men and therefore also a stronger protective wall against the evil flu viruses.

It is also generally known that women have to endure extreme pain during birth. The female body is designed to withstand this pain. Women are by nature more capable of suffering than men and experience illness and pain in a different way than men.

Another theory assumes that the most widespread male influenza viruses are more strongly directed against the male sex and also attack it more strongly than women. Possible reasons discussed are a general hatred of men by these viruses or the lack of assertiveness of these viruses against the female sex. These theories have not yet been proven.
