Metrorrhagia: Surgical Therapy

1st order

  • Abrasio – scraping of the mucosa of the uterus so that it can then be examined histologically; can also be used therapeutically, for example, as a curettage after an abortion (miscarriage) to remove remnants of the placenta from the uterus
  • Surgical removal of fibroids (benign tumors) or polyps (mucosal outpouchings of the endometrium).
  • Hysterectomy – removal of the uterus in the presence of malignant diseases such as a cervical carcinoma (cervical cancer) or endometrial carcinoma (endometrial carcinoma).
