Mold Allergy: Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of mold allergy.

Family history

  • What is the general health of your relatives?
  • Are there any diseases in your family that are common?
  • Do you have stress in the family or partnership?

Social history

  • What is your occupation? (Occupations at risk are those that involve handling organic mold-containing materials, such as gardener, miller, baker, vintner, brewer, farmer, or worker in recycling, composting or sewage treatment plants).
  • Do you have stress at work?
  • Is there mold in your home?
  • Is/was there water damage or mold growth in your apartment?

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • What symptoms have you noticed?
  • Do you suffer from watery/itchy eyes, runny nose, frequent sneezing, coughing irritation, skin changes?
  • How long have these symptoms been present?
  • Have you been able to detect a mold odor (musty, musty to sour)?
  • When do the symptoms occur? Have you noticed a seasonal dependence? Do the complaints occur more in warm and humid weather?
  • Do the complaints occur after eating certain foods?
  • How long do they last?
  • Have the symptoms worsened over time?

Vegetative anamnesis including nutritional anamnesis.

  • Can you tolerate wine/beer-based drinks, apple juice? Or do you have flatulence after consumption?

Self anamnesis incl. medication anamnesis

  • Pre-existing conditions (bronchial asthma; neurodermatitis; allergic rhinitis (allergic rhinitis); frequent viral infections or colds).
  • Operations
  • Radiotherapy
  • Vaccination status
  • Allergies
  • Environmental history (air pollutants)
  • Drug history (immunosuppressants)
