Pain in the right or left abdomen
- Inflammation of renal pelvis Often preceded by urinary tract infections. Inflammation of the renal pelvis manifests itself with fever, increased urge to urinate, flank pain, chills, nausea, vomiting, blood in the urine and pain when urinating.
- Kidney stone Depending on the position of the stone, the pain is higher or lower and can occur on both sides. If the stone is located in the ureter, the pain is often not constant, but occurs in waves.
Blood is often excreted in the urine and, depending on the size of the stone, urinary retention and inflammation of the kidney may occur.
- Urinary tract infection Urinary tract infection causes pain and burning sensation when urinating, bloody urine, frequent urge to urinate, burning sensation in the vagina and, depending on the severity of the inflammation, also flank pain, nausea and vomiting.
- Ectopic pregnancy The symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy are: absence of periods, vaginal bleeding, dull to stabbing pain in the right or left lower abdomen, breast tenderness, nausea and vomiting.
- Inflammation of the fallopian tubes The symptoms of an inflammation of the fallopian tubes are often similar to the symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy. These include: fever, stabbing or dull pain, increased discharge, nausea and vomiting.
- Ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease: These two diseases are inflammatory bowel diseases and often cause pain. They differ in the location of the affection.
Ulcerative colitis is restricted to the colon, while Crohn’s disease can affect anything from the beginning in the oral cavity to the anus. However, the symptoms are similar. Both cause pain in the lower abdominal area and frequent diarrhea.
There may also be blood in the stool. Patients often complain of fever, night sweats and severe weight loss.
- Ileus The word ileus means intestinal obstruction in medicine. An intestinal obstruction can be mechanical or functional.
For example, adhesions that have arisen from operations in the abdominal cavity can pinch the intestine and thus lead to the obstruction. The main symptoms are: Strongly inflated abdomen, wind and stools, vomiting and severe stabbing pain.
- Invagination The invagination describes the invagination of the intestine. In adults, the symptoms often start slowly and resemble those of an intestinal obstruction. An indicative symptom can be a jelly-like stool.
- Volvulus: The volvulus describes the twisting of intestinal loops.
The symptoms are: Bloated abdomen, nausea, vomiting, stool retention and fever.
- Endometriosis Endometriosis is a disease in which the lining of the uterus is not only inside the uterus, but also outside it. Mostly it is only scattered in the pelvis. Endometriosis can cause severe pain in the abdomen, regardless of the amount of endometriosis.
However, this pain usually occurs only during menstruation. Besides pain in the back, vomiting and diarrhoea can be symptoms. In addition, the pain can also occur during sexual intercourse.
