Pain of a crowned tooth when biting

The inflammation of the root apex is typically accompanied by pain in the bite. They are characterized by throbbing or strong pulling, which is alleviated by cold. Also an incorrect tooth position, i.e. when the upper and lower teeth do not mesh properly, can be the cause of hypersensitivity. The reason is very often a newly inserted but not well adapted crown or prosthesis or even a new filling (restoration).

In the first few days it usually feels as if the artificial crown is too high, because it meets its opponent before all other teeth. This chronic overloading of the crowned or filled tooth causes the pain. A grinding back of the restoration or crown by the dentist then provides relief because the height of the tooth now corresponds to normal conditions again.

Furthermore, the wrong bite can cause an imbalance in the musculoskeletal system. It promotes pain in the entire masticatory musculature and in the temporomandibular joint, which in some patients also causes severe headaches. An improvement of these muscular complaints occurs only when the cause is eliminated. More on the topic: Temporomandibular joint pain
