Anal Vein Thrombosis: Examination

A comprehensive clinical examination is the basis for selecting further diagnostic steps:

  • General physical examination – including blood pressure, pulse, body weight, height; furthermore:
    • Inspection of anal region/anal canal [redness?, swelling, nodules?, lobules?, prolapsed tissue?, prallel elastic nodule perianally (usually pinhead- to plum-sized), bluish-red, possibly several pearly strings in a row; at anal margin or in anal canal?, blood?, ulcer in anoderm (ulcer in anal mucosa area)?]
    • Digital rectal examination (DRU): examination of the rectum (rectum) and adjacent organs with the finger by palpation (palpation): assessment of the prostate in size, shape and consistency.
  • Cancer screening

Square brackets [ ] indicate possible pathological (pathological) physical findings.
