Pain when urinating (Dysuria, Strangury): Symptoms, Complaints, Signs

The following symptoms and complaints may indicate dysuria:

Leading symptoms

• Man: painful and difficult urination with intentional bladder emptying.
• Woman: difficult (painful) urination, often in combination with pollakiuria (urge to urinate frequently without increased urination), with intentional bladder emptying.

The following symptoms and complaints may indicate stranguria:

Leading symptoms

• Man and woman: unsuppressible urge to urinate with pain.

Note: Pain with urination alone is called alguria.
