- In exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (disease of the pancreas associated with insufficient production of digestive enzymes): Substitution (“replacement”) of the missing enzymes (see below pancreatic enzymes).
- Endocrine pancreatic insufficiency (disease of the pancreas associated with insufficient production of hormones, specifically insulin and glucagon): Achieving stable glucose controlThe endocrine pancreatic insufficiency is treated like type 1 diabetes mellitus [see under type 1 diabetes mellitus].Caveat (Warning!): hypoglycemias (low blood sugar).
