Pertussis Postexposure Prophylaxis

Postexposure prophylaxis is the provision of medication to prevent disease in persons who are not protected against a particular disease by vaccination but have been exposed to it.

Indications (areas of application)

  • Persons without vaccination protection with close contacts to a diseased person, especially in the family or in residential communities as well as communal facilities
  • Vaccinated persons with close contacts to a sick person, if in their environment vulnerable persons (such as unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated infants, children with underlying cardiac or pulmonary conditions (of the heart or lungs) or pregnant women in the last trimester (third of pregnancy) are.
