- Prevention of pulmonary embolism (vascular occlusion of pulmonary arteries) and postthrombotic syndrome (chronic venous stasis affecting the lower extremity as a result of deep vein thrombosis) in cases of long-standing phlebitis (phlebitis), phlebitis of the great saphenous vein, or in immobile individuals
