Problem overweight
In order to be able to perform an ultrasound examination of the abdomen, it is not a prerequisite that the patient is fasting. However, no large meals should be taken before the examination. In particular, foods that swell considerably, such as cabbage or beans, should be avoided on the day of the examination.
Carbonated beverages should also be avoided before the Sono Abdomen if possible. The reason for this is that air accumulation in the gastrointestinal tract makes the examination conditions more difficult. The ultrasound cannot penetrate air well, so that, for example, an air-filled loop of the small intestine obstructs the view of an organ behind it. Since the formation of gas is different for every person, it may be appropriate to repeat the examination on an empty stomach in those with a lot of air in the abdomen.
