Prognosis
Köhler I disease has a very good prognosis, even though the healing process can take a long time, several years. An operation is practically never necessary and the damage usually heals without consequences. The situation is different with Köhler II disease.
One reason for this is that the disease is only recognized at a late stage. Then an operation is often unavoidable. The damage often does not heal back to its original state, so that minor complaints can remain and under certain circumstances a stiffening of the sole of the foot may be necessary.
