Prognosis | Lymph node swelling – How dangerous is that?

Prognosis

The prognosis depends on the diagnosis and the type of disease. If it is only an infection, it usually does not last very long. One usually speaks of a few days.

The swelling of the lymph nodes then disappears of its own accord without the need for medication. However, if the lymph nodes are malignant and too large, indicating cancer, the prognosis depends on the stage at which the disease was discovered. Another influencing factor is how well the treatment responds and which cancer is the exact cause.

Unfortunately, the prognosis for many cancers is not very good, as many are only discovered when they are already advanced and metastases have spread to other organs. However, if there is only one infection behind the swelling of the lymph nodes, the prognosis is very good because it heals quickly and usually no damage remains. For most other diseases, it always depends on the time at which the disease is recognized as such. Many of the above mentioned diseases are difficult to treat in advanced stages and often have a poor prognosis.

Prophylaxis

A tick vaccination against borreliosis, for example, helps in many cases. This is a simple and effective protection against this disease. For most venereal diseases, if you protect yourself sufficiently with a condom, the risk of contracting the disease is greatly reduced.

Nevertheless, sufficient hygiene should also be ensured. However, it is difficult to protect oneself from cancer. However, it is advisable to have regular check-ups and to consult your doctor if you have any complaints, so that you can start therapy quickly.

With diphtheria, just like with measles and rubella, there is a very good protective vaccination. If it is always refreshed in time, one does not have to worry about becoming ill. You can protect yourself very well from the simple infections with good nutrition and plenty of fresh air and exercise, as well as a generally healthy lifestyle. Because the more intact the immune system is, the less quickly or less frequently one falls ill.
