Prognosis | Neurodermatitis in the intimate area

Prognosis

Atopic dermatitis is a chronic disease. The symptoms may be relapsing, i.e. there may be long periods without symptoms. Neurodermatitis, which occurs in the genital area, can also be intermittent. If skin wrinkles in this area are reduced, for example by weight reduction, the region is kept dry and trigger factors such as irritating clothing and aggressive hygiene are avoided, the prognosis that neurodermatitis in the genital area no longer occurs is significantly better. In general, the prognosis for neurodermatitis is that more than half of the affected children who suffer from this disease will no longer have symptoms in adulthood.

This is the best way to shave myself with neurodermatitis in the genital area

If neurodermatitis is present in the intimate area, the skin is usually dry and irritated, and eczema and open skin areas may also be present. It is therefore particularly important not to irritate the skin even more. In the best case, shaving should be avoided.

Every additional injury to the skin increases the risk of bacteria from the genital region entering the circulation or developing a local inflammation. If shaving cannot be avoided, it should be done as gently as possible. In this case, it should not be shaved against the direction of hair growth in order to damage the skin barrier as little as possible.

In addition, care should be taken to ensure sufficient moisture supply and, if necessary, disinfection with local antiseptics. Shaving should only be done with a clean razor.
