Prognosis | Tachycardia at night

Prognosis

In most cases, there are harmless causes behind nocturnal heart palpitations that have a good prognosis and do not cause permanent symptoms. Nevertheless, if the symptoms persist, a clarification should be carried out to identify more serious causes. Here, too, the symptoms can usually be controlled by medication and sometimes invasive measures. In a few cases, there is severe heart disease behind the tachycardia, which can worsen the prognosis significantly.

Prophylaxis

Preventive measures against palpitations, which occur mainly at night, can be taken more or less depending on the cause. Relaxation techniques, autogenic training and self-reflection help to relieve stress. Reduced consumption of alcohol can prevent tachycardia at night.

During pregnancy, it is usually helpful to lie on your (left) side rather than flat on your back. If there are structural causes, prophylaxis against tachycardia is difficult and often only possible with medication. However, a healthy lifestyle with good nutrition, refraining from smoking and plenty of exercise can reduce the general risk of heart disease.
