Prophylaxis | MRSA transmission

Prophylaxis

The prevention of MRSA infection or colonization is especially important during a stay or visit to the hospital, as this is the main source of infection. Particular attention should be paid to hand hygiene and hands should be disinfected before and after the visit. But also in everyday life you can try to protect yourself from infection by washing your hands regularly with soap and water and using your own towels and washcloths.

If a wound occurs, it should be protected from infection and colonization with bacteria with clean bandages or plasters. This will also prevent possible transmission to other people. Thorough hand washing before and after changing the dressing should be observed.

Close contact with people with open wounds should be avoided if possible. In hospitals, doctors and nursing staff should be informed about possible contact with people infected with MRSA so that appropriate protective measures can be taken under certain circumstances.
