Prophylaxis | X-Legs for children

Prophylaxis

A targeted prophylaxis is not possible. Also a correction of the incorrect load with insoles, as with adults, is to be seen rather critically with children. With X legs, however, care should be taken to reduce the already increased load as much as possible, e.g. by reducing overweight and sports that are easy on the joints (see above). In infants, the administration of vitamin D has become widely accepted in the first two years of life in order to avoid malpositions caused by vitamin D deficiency (e.g. rickets).

Prognosis

There are no generally accepted figures on how exactly an axial malposition such as the X legs is related to the development of osteoarthritis or other complaints in the knee joint. The course of the disease is strongly dependent on the individual extent. It is therefore quite possible that a slight malposition, which has never caused problems, will not cause any complaints or joint damage even without treatment.
