Pubic Bone Inflammation (Symphysitis): Therapy

General measures

  • As a conservative therapeutic measure: initial immobilization and relief.
  • In extremely painful course of the disease, which is not uncommon, athletes must endure a longer-term training and competition interruption.

Drug therapy

  • Anti-inflammatory drugs (anti-inflammatory drugs) from the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
  • If necessary, also glucocorticoid therapy.

Conventional non-surgical therapy methods

  • Infiltration of the symphyseal joint space under image intensifier with a local anesthetic (agent for local anesthesia) combined with a corticosteroid; depending on the stage of symphysitis, success rates of more than 80% have been reported in the literature

Medical aids

  • Insoles supply – to correct a defective statics of the arch of the foot.
