Scabies: Therapy

General notes

  • Partner management, i.e., infected partners, if any, must be located and treated (contacts must be traced for 2 months).
  • Observance of general hygiene measures
  • After the implementation of drug therapy, bed linen, towels and clothing that has come into contact with the skin must be washed at > 50 ° C and stored sealed in a plastic bag for one week.
  • Beds must be remade; however, complete sanitation of the bedroom is not required!
  • Each contact must be treated with.
  • Nicotine restriction (refrain from tobacco use).
  • Alcohol restriction (abstaining from alcohol)

Instructions for the implementation of therapy

  • Gloves should be worn, and protective gowns if necessary.
  • The fingernails and toenails should be shortened.
  • The remedy for scabies should be applied after a full bath, but only when the skin is completely dry; the entire body is treated, excluding the face and hairy head (In infants, immunocompromised persons, the entire body).
  • In the case of severely inflamed skin, a cream containing cortisone can be applied.
  • In infants or immunocompromised persons, as well as scabies crustosa (synonyms: scabies norvegica; bark scabies), inpatient therapy should be performed.

Nutritional medicine

  • Nutritional counseling based on nutritional analysis
  • Nutritional recommendations according to a mixed diet taking into account the disease at hand. This means, among other things:
    • Daily total of 5 servings of fresh vegetables and fruits (≥ 400 g; 3 servings of vegetables and 2 servings of fruits).
    • Once or twice a week fresh sea fish, i.e. fatty marine fish (omega-3 fatty acids) such as salmon, herring, mackerel.
    • High-fiber diet (whole grains, vegetables).
  • Selection of appropriate food based on the nutritional analysis
