Skin rash on the hands of the child

A rash is more frequently observed in children. Thus, many childhood illnesses show that the skin is also involved. As mentioned above, the most typical disease is the hand-foot-mouth disease.

It causes redness and small blisters in the area of the sole of the foot and the palm of the hand. This is accompanied by inflammation of the oral mucosa with aphthae. The hand-foot-mouth disease is transmitted by group A Coxsackie viruses and is highly infectious.

However, it is almost always harmless and does not require therapy. Of course children can also suffer from contact dermatitis of the hands. However, the rash on the hands is often allergic in nature.

Caution is especially recommended for children with known allergic pre-existing conditions (hay fever? asthma? neurodermatitis? ).

For a successful therapy, a diagnosis should first be made as accurately as possible. For this purpose, patients should consult a dermatologist. Specific questions can already narrow down possible causes: When does the skin rash appear?

Is there a connection with a certain activity? Is there itching of the hands?.. Then the hands are examined.

Sometimes the physician recognizes the diagnosis at first glance. A typical finding is, for example, “dyshidrosiform hand eczema” with its small, bulging and itchy blisters on the palm of the hand. Sometimes additional sampling of the rash may be necessary. These tiny skin samples can be examined under the microscope and contribute to a successful diagnosis.
