Therapy recommendations

• Medications are prescribed in the therapy of somatoform disorder at most temporarily (four to six weeks at most) and not as the only form of therapy.
• Antidepressants should be used only in the presence of relevant psychological comorbidity
• Patients taking opioids or benzodiazepines should be attempted to wean off slowly.
