Therapy | Gonorrhea

Therapy

Antibiotic therapy is required to treat gonorrhea. These are designed to kill the bacteria causing the disease. Nowadays a so-called cephalosporin antibiotic of the 3rd generation is usually used, since many resistances have already developed against older antibiotics.

During treatment and until healing, sexual intercourse should be avoided. In addition, the simultaneous treatment of the sexual partners is of great importance, since they too may have been infected with the bacterium. The use of condoms provides good protection against infection with gonorrhea, but infections cannot be ruled out even when using condoms.

Prognosis

If gonorrhea is detected early, the infectious disease usually heals without consequences.
