Therapy | Pain in the chest

Therapy

The therapy of the individual diseases is very different. Cardiovascular diseases are to be taken very seriously and must be treated by inserting stents or dilating the vessels in a cardiac catheter. Inflammatory diseases caused by viruses or bacteria, which can be the trigger for shingles and pericarditis, must be treated with antibiotics or antivirals.

Depending on the severity of the disease, the therapy is carried out as an in-patient. A chronic inflammation of the esophagus must also be taken seriously due to the increased risk of cancer. The therapy lies in the daily intake of proton pump inhibitors and a healthy diet. Muscular tensions can be relieved by physiotherapy.

Summary

Pain in the chest is a common symptom with numerous causes. For this reason, it is often difficult to diagnose and correctly treat it. The treating physician is therefore dependent on the patient’s exact medical history.

Since chest pain is relatively harmless, but can also be a symptom of a life-threatening illness, newly occurring or changing chest pain must always be clarified by a doctor. Thus, it is possible to detect and treat a pulmonary embolism or a heart attack at an early stage. Imaging procedures (ultrasound, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging) are used to make a diagnosis.

These allow for a narrowing down and diagnosis. The therapy is then very different. For numerous diseases, especially cardiovascular diseases and inflammation of the esophagus, a daily, consistent and lifelong intake of medication is necessary.
