Therapy | Periostitis on the ribs

Therapy

The treatment of periosteal inflammation of the ribs is directed at the cause of the inflammation. If the periostitis is caused by overexertion due to sport, a break from sport with physical rest and pain-relieving, anti-inflammatory medication is indicated. Active ingredients such as ibuprofen or diclofenac are ideal. Bacterially triggered periosteal inflammation of the ribs is treated with appropriate antibiotics. If the periosteitis is a progressive inflammation, for example from the pleura or the bone itself, it is extremely important to treat the underlying disease.

Duration

The healing time of the inflammation is largely determined by the cause and therapy. The healing period can last from weeks to months. You will find more detailed information under our topic: How long does periostitis last!
