Medical history (history of the patient) represents an important component in the diagnosis of rhizarthrosis (arthritis of the thumb saddle joint).

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • Do you have pain in the joint(s)?
    • Pain on exertion?
    • Pressure pain?
    • Shooting pain?
    • Pain at rest?
  • Do you suffer from joint stiffness or a feeling of tightness in the joint(s)?
  • Do you have loss of function in the joint(s)?
    • Coordination problems?
    • Loss of strength when reaching for heavier objects?
    • Difficulty with twisting movements (e.g., when opening screw caps).
    • Loss of sensitivity
  • Do you have any other symptoms such as joint noises, sensitivity to wetness or cold?
  • Do you suffer from muscle tension?
