Thyroid Cancer (Thyroid Carcinoma): Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) is an important component in the diagnosis of thyroid cancer (thyroid carcinoma).

Family history

  • Is there a frequent history of thyroid disease/tumor in your family?
  • Are there any hereditary diseases in your family?

Social anamnesis

Current medical history/systemic medical history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • What symptoms have you noticed in yourself?
  • Have you palpated a rough but painless lump in the neck area? Has this lump increased in size?
  • Has the skin in this area changed?
  • Do you have pain in the area of the neck, the angle of the jaw or the back of the head?
  • Do you suffer from dysphagia or hoarseness?
  • Have you noticed any changes in the eye area (eyelid drooping; pupil constriction; eyeball drooping back).
  • Do you have lymph node enlargement in the neck area?
  • How long have these symptoms been present?

Vegetative anamnesis including nutritional anamnesis.

  • Are you overweight? Please tell us your body weight (in kg) and height (in cm).

Self anamnesis incl. medication anamnesis

  • Pre-existing conditions (thyroid disease, tumor disease).
